On Abortion: I believe in the sanctity of life

Regarding abortion, I believe in the sanctity of life and am against abortion. But, as a conservative, I believe in individual rights and in those cases where rape or incest has occurred or the life of the mother is at risk, the decision is best left to the individuals involved, not to the government. I am against government funding of abortion. I fervently want every pregnancy to result in a happy, healthy child in a loving, supportive home.

On Civil Rights: Marriage is only between a man and a woman

There are social issues like abortion and marriage that remain key to our way of life. I believe that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

On Crime: Mandatory minimum sentences for crimes against kids

I support mandatory minimum sentences for those who assault or sexually abuse children and was encouraged that the issue was addressed in a law passed this budget session, creating a 25 year mandatory minimum sentence for adults convicted of first degree sexual abuse of children. With me, victims of crime are not a side note--abused children, the sexually abused, victims of domestic violence, all victims must always be center stage in law enforcement decisions.

On Drugs: Confront substance abuse aggressively

Deaths from drug overdose, deaths from drunk driving, teenagers addicted to drugs are tragic events--to individuals, to loved one and to our communities. Wyoming needs to do better. Substance abuse problems are prevalent, and I have the experience to tackle them.

On Gun Control: Advocate for protection of Second Amendment rights

As Governor, I will be the strongest advocate for protection of Second Amendment rights. I love to hunt and fish. I'm proud owner for many years of a Wyoming lifetime small game, bird and fishing license. I strongly support gun rights, hunting, multiple-use on public lands, and efforts to limit federal control of guns.

On Gun Control: Sunset the assault weapons ban, including my AR15

I will oppose federal efforts to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights. My collection of guns includes AR 15 models, .50 caliber, .22s, and many others. I do not want you or me to lose our right to own and use these guns. Therefore, I support the sunset of the assault weapons ban and reciprocity with other states for Wyoming's concealed carry laws. I will also direct my Attorney General to resist efforts to change new policy which allows guns to be carried in our national parks.

On Health Care: Legal challenge to federal health mandates

Health care reform is not one size fits all. If health care is state-driven, it can be changed; if it is federally driven, it is mandated. I support health care reform at the state level.

Wyoming should join with other states in the ongoing legal challenge against the recently passed federal health care law. In my view the law is unconstitutional and infringes on individual liberties. The law will kill jobs, distress small businesses, and hurt future growth.

On Immigration: Enforce immigration laws & secure borders

Legal, not illegal, immigration helped build our great country. I believe that our country's immigration laws must be enforced and our borders secured. I toured our southern border and was then, as I am now, deeply concerned that it remains unsecure. Open borders also lead to many of the illegal drugs.

On War & Peace: We are at war since 2001; the threat is still real

Some in our country, sad to say, need reminded that we were attacked in 2001, and we are at war. We must always support our country's ongoing war effort. Returning home, Wyoming's brave men and women who have been deployed in the war effort and their families must have our full support. We must always support our troops here and abroad.

The threat is real. Those who would do us harm have not become complacent, and we must remain vigilant about national security.

On Welfare & Poverty: Work with religious agencies to expedite adoptions

I believe adoptions need to be encouraged and easily facilitated. As a prosecutor, I saw the most traumatic of cases where children were never cared about, they were abused and even murdered. My administration will work with other government, private and religious social service agencies to expedite adoptions and ensure every child is raised in a loving family environment.
