Lance Gooden on Immigration

Borders greatest national security risk today

Our borders and our immigration system are broken. The federal government has failed time and time again to secure our borders, which is our greatest national security risk today. Securing our borders, enforcing immigration law, and streamlining legal immigration is one of the great challenges of our time. We must stop kicking the can down the road, and finally address this crisis once and for all.

Pay for border wall any way we can

President Trump after campaigning on Mexico paying for the wall had taken money from the defense department. "I am for security on the border but not taking our tax money to pay for it." Gooden said the border wall would not build itself and the preference of the people would be to "get the job done and pay for it any way we can." He also clarified that the money came from military budget and not from Veterans."

Supports Trump's declaration of border emergency

Gooden says he supports President Donald Trump's idea to declare a national emergency in order to secure funding for the border wall. He says Trump would need to do that "especially if he wants to get what he wants because I don't think he's gonna get it in Congress." Republicans want to secure the border, Democrats know that it's a political hot potato, and they're less inclined to admit that there's a problem.

PVS:Illegal immigrants must exit and re-enter.

Gooden supports the PVS survey question on rejecting amnesty

Project Vote Smart inferred whether candidates agree or disagree with the statement, 'Immigration: Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? PVS self-description: "The Political Courage Test provides voters with positions on key issues. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
